"If I were to think about who would be the best person to craft a dark and frightening score for a horror film, I probably would not pick a songwriter whose discography is primarily composed of love songs and ballads influenced by the likes of Elton John and The Beatles. After hearing “Zombie Overture,” a new demo by Abel Quintero, a writer who specializes in the aforementioned genre, I might have to reconsider that notion.
The short piece of music contained in this ominous composition runs about two minutes in length, but, in that time, there is an abundance of dark mood conveyed. Starting slowly with a menacing churning sound, the listener is soon drawn in by a slow, doom-inspired guitar line that slices its way into the mind. Then, things build a bit with the added layer of a subtle drum beat that gives the rest of the track a shambling, shuffling gait, not unlike the zombies that inspired its creation. The end result is a score that is both creepy and unsettling."
