The Walking Dead Escape, a zombie-themed obstacle course inspired by the hit AMC television series, is coming to the River Center Arena April 24, the first stop on a national tour.
Participants can choose to attend the event as survivors of a zombie apocalypse, spectators or as zombies in search of the living, said David Isaacs, president of Skybound EXP, which publishes the comic book series on which the television show is based.
Isaacs spoke in Baton Rouge today during a press conference at the River Center. Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden presented Isaac with a certificate proclaiming it “The Walking Dead Escape Day” in the parish of East Baton Rouge and the city of Baton Rouge.
“The Walking Dead” television series is the No. 1 show for viewers 18 to 49, and the video game version, released last year, won several awards Isaac said, leading Skybound to take the obstacle course on tour.
“Instead of just watching it or playing it, they can feel like they’re living it,” Isaacs said.
Fans first ran The Walking Dead Escape course during its debut at San Diego’s Petco Park in 2012, before Skybound Entertainment, which publishes “The Walking Dead” comic book series, took the event to a handful of other cities in 2013. The public’s response and the popularity of The Walking Dead television series led Skybound to take the course on tour, according to Isaacs.
