An almost 12-minute gameplay demo for the upcoming first-person zombie game Dying Light has arrived online, giving us our first peek at the game in action.
Many are comparing the game to Dead Island—and rightfully so, as it is developed by the maker of both Dead Island games, Techland—and Mirror’s Edge. And as you’ll see, it certainly has a healthy dose of both of those games in its makeup.
You can check out the new Dying Light gameplay demo below now.
The game is scheduled to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and the demo below looks to be running on one of the more powerful systems.
Dying Light is looking fairly intense, and it’s sure to be popular with a lot of people. That said, I lost chunks of interest as the video progressed starting at the 6:00 point simply because games that need to create these wacky new types of zombies in order to be fresh and new—such as Dead Island‘s inexplicable collection of shark-jumping pro wrestler/bodybuilder zombies who all escaped from an insane asylum, for example—do serious damage to my interest.
Whatever happened to good old fashioned zombies true to George A. Romero’s heart? Isn’t most of the human race turning into walking corpses who, while slow-moving, want to devour your flesh already about as scary as things can get? Trying to add on to that often only leads to silly and ridiculous zombies. End rant.
What do you think? Will you play Dying Light when it’s released?
