Developer Telltale Games is bringing its hit zombie series to next-gen gamers. The studio announced it will package both seasons of The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game Series as boxed copies for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime in 2014.
The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game Series – Season One debuted in April 2012 as a downloadable, episodic adventure. The five-part tale is set within The Walking Dead universe and finds Lee Everett, an escaped convict, braving undead hordes and human conflicts to reunite a girl named Clementine with her parents. The point-and-click franchise was praised by The Walking Dead fans and newcomers alike for its mature storytelling, innovative action sequences, and a plot that adapts to each player’s decisions and actions.
Season Two is currently in production and picks up months after the first. Beginning with Episode 1, All That Remains, it sees Clementine recovering from the devastating events in Season One and beginning a fresh journey across post-apocalyptic U.S. In his chat with PC Gamer, Season Two writer and season designer Mark Darin said bumping Clementine up to lead protagonist felt natural, noting, “You spent a lot of Season One playing as Lee bringing up Clementine in a way that you think is going to be best for her. Now, putting you in her shoes and seeing how that plays out, that’s something that really resonated with us.”
Darin also hinted that players’ decisions from the first season will bleed into Clementine’s new adventure, adding, “The choices you made in Season One and the things you did with Clementine color who she is in Season Two. That’s an important thing for us. We’re trying not to be super heavy-handed with it, but we’re really retaining that sense of feeling like the Clementine you helped raise in Season One, this is the logical progression of that arc that you went through with her.”
Episode 3 of Season 2, In Harms Way, was released in May 2014. The penultimate episode, Amid the Ruins, is slated for Q3 2014. Once complete, Season Two will also be released as a retail disc for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
