Every time it seems like we've reached peak zombie media, something else comes along to bring even more undead hordes to our screens. We've already got more The Walking Dead and Z Nation to look forward to, plus a Walking Deadspinoff, a sequel to World War Z, and plenty of comics, novels and videogames. Now zombies are heading to the big screen in another project, this time with robots in tow.
Variety reports that director Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) is set to direct Inherit the Earth, an adaptation of the comic Zombies vs. Robots, for Sony Pictures and Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes. The original comic, by writer and IDW Publishing Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and artist Ashley Wood, was released in 2005, and "follows a group of robots who protect a young girl, the last human on Earth, from a pack of intelligent zombies." Several sequels have since been released, including Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons.
No cast has been announced for the film yet, but Adamson will reportedly be working from a screenplay draft by Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and 22 Jump Streetwriter Oren Uziel. There's also no release date yet, and no word on why the film's title was changed from that of the comic. I mean, Zombies vs. Robots sounds like the perfect summer blockbuster title, so why go with Inherit the Earth instead? In any case, the flick's got a cool core concept, and we know Adamson can deliver an epic flick, so we're ready.
