'The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse' Announced for DVD/Blu-ray

The animated adventure featuring a zombie with a soul will shamble onto Blu-ray in June.

In an early announcement to retailers, Starz/Anchor Bay will be releasing 'The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse' on Blu-ray on June 18.

An instant fan favorite when it premiered at last year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, 'The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse' is a hip horror fantasy done in CG animation and brings new life to the zombie genre. Unlike any living dead story before, this wildly entertaining film is based on the cult underground Dynamite comic series, “The Living Corpse Exhumed” by Ken Haeser and Buz Hasson.

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements have yet to be revealed.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $24.99.

Patrick D'Orazio's 'Beyond the Dark' Now Available In All Formats!

Permuted Press has completed the release process for Beyond The Dark with paper, ebook, and audio versions all now available.  This finishes off the new version of the trilogy, and as I mentioned when the ebook version was released, this version ofBeyond The Dark has the Dark Stories that were included in the original ebook trilogy release, plus some new additions, including a short story originally seen in "Eyewitness: Zombie", an anthology produced by May December Publications.  This is a tale of a National Guardsman told in first person which takes place in the early days of battle to fight the undead plague.  There is also a brief appearance by two of the characters that appear in the trilogy toward the end of the story and hints at their future plans.  A brand new Dark story makes its debut in this novel.  Lydia, one of the characters introduced in Into The Dark was one of the few key secondary characters who didn't get the flashback treatment.  One of the reviewers of the original Dark Stories was disappointed she didn't get the same treatment as everyone else did.  I agreed, and since I always knew what Lydia's history, I was able to craft her story for the release of this book in short order.  I have a great fondness of Lydia and I hope that you enjoy the tale of her first exposure to having her world turned upside down by the undead plague.

When people ask me what my favorite book of the trilogy is, its sort of like being asked to to choose between your children.  I sort of feel awkward answering that question.  But, since I have always thought of the trilogy as one saga, I do feel that Beyond The Dark does comprise the parts of the tale that are the most compelling, the ones that wrung the most emotions out of me in writing it.  It is also the book that gets the highest praise-a lot of 'he saved the best for last'.

There is more stories to be told in this world and I plan on revisiting it, but the Dark Trilogy stands on its own, and Beyond The Dark is my favorite part of the trilogy.  There, I said it.  I still love Comes The Dark and Into The Dark, but this is the piece of the puzzle I'm most proud of...and I hope you enjoy it!

IDW Brings Us a New Type of Zombie

Brad Pitt's World War Z Zombie Nightmare: Vanity Fair Details Production Problems

No surprise, Brad Pitt looks gorgeous on the cover of Vanity Fair.

But inside the mag, the story behind the making of his World War Zzombie flick isn't so pretty. 

Director Mark Foster, screenwriter Damon Lindelof and Paramount Pictures executives talk about the troubled production, spilling secrets of budget overages, incomplete endings and endless reshoots in Vanity Fair 's June cover story . 

According to the article, production blew through the flick's early budget, amounting an overage of millions of dollars while filming in Malta.

"It was literally insane. Adam [Goodman, president of the Paramount Film Group] and I believed we'd gotten out of Malta good, and I found out we weren't. That is a nightmare," Marc Evans, president of production at Paramount told Vanity Fair. 

The financial oversight coupled with countless reshoots eventually ballooned the film's budget to over $200 million, and experienced blockbuster producer Ian Bryce was brought on to take control of production in Glasgow.

But Bryce couldn't solve all the problem's that plagued the film, and according to Evans, the money issues were just the beginning. He recalls the first screening which left the audience silent, due to an abrupt and incoherant ending. 

"It was, like, Wow. The ending of our movie doesn't work," Evans said. "I believed in that moment we needed to reshoot the movie." 

After the screening, Lindelof was also on board with an alternate ending, "I said to them, There are two roads to go down here. Is there material that can be written to make that stuff work better? To have it make sense? To have it have emotional stakes? And plot logic and all that? And Road Two, which I think is the long-shot road, is that everything changes after Brad leaves Israel."

Road Two required shooting an additional 30 to 40 minutes of the movie, a decision which Paramount ultimately decided to back, but director Foster says it was not a "big drama" despite all the production problems. 

"I feel like, yes, the ending didn't work," he told the mag. "Yes, we all thought it was going to work. Yes, we decided it's not the right ending. Yes, we decided to change it and spend more money. Yes, it never happened to me before on any of my other movies. But I think this movie is more original and bigger and more special than I have ever done before." 

The June issue of  Vanity Fair will be available on newsstands in New York and L.A. on May 2 and nationally on the iPad, Nook, and Kindle on May 7.
