New Images From ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ Released

Last October, we got the first look at main stars of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s horror-classics mash-up of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. That first photo featured the Bennett sisters — Elizabeth (Lily James), Lydia (Ellie Bamber), Mary (Millie Brady), Jane (Bella Heathcote), and Kitty (Suki Waterhouse) — ready to do battle against zombies in Victorian-era England.

Now, new images from the upcoming film have been released via EW. Check them out here below in the image gallery.

The 2009 novel from Quirk Books was pretty much what set off the trend of taking classic literature and mashing it up with horror elements, such as zombies, werewolves, vampires, and more, and in my opinion, it’s still the best of the crop. While it was labeled a parody, the book doesn’t play it for laughs, and according to the film’s director Burr Steers, the big-screen adaptation won’t either. Steers told EW that he instructed his cast to play it straight.

“The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight,” Steers explains. “The movie’s big wink is that there is no big wink.”
Lily James (Cinderella), who stars as literary heroine Elizabeth Bennett in a role once slated for Natalie Portman, said the ladies in the film will get to see a lot of action.
“Rather than knitting and crocheting, they’re polishing muskets,” says James (Cinderella). And Lizzy, she says, is unlike any leading lady she’s ever played: “She’s the most badass zombie slayer there is.”

Speaking of ladies in the film, Lena Headey — who plays the wicked Cersei Lannister on Game Of Thrones) — will appear as a “famed eye-patch-sporting warrior,” while her GoT co-star Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) will play against type as the “kindly family patriarch.”

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which opens February 5, 2016, also stars Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, and Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith.
