GEORGE A. ROMERO'S 'WARD OF THE DEAD' HAUNTED HOUSE

Fright Dome at Circus Circus is celebrating 10 years of terror in Vegas. This year the top-ranked haunted attraction is teaming up with the godfather of zombie films, George A. Romero, to create a zombie-themed haunted house, “Ward of the Dead.” Guard your flesh, the zombies are coming. Fright Dome opens Sept. 29. and runs on select nights from 7 p.m. to midnight through Oct. 31.

Romero’s “Ward of the Dead” will immerse brave visitors in a real-life zombie apocalypse where they’ll have to fend off flesh-feigning zombies and race for safety in what’s being described as Fright Dome’s most intense haunted house since the attraction debuted in 2002.

“Ward of the Dead” is one of the five haunted houses being featured this year. The other four houses include “The Infected,” a zombie quarantine area; “Camp Massacre,” a twisted, chainsaw-ridden summer camp; “Fright Dome’s Urban Legends,” playing on classic fears; and the “The Anniversary,” which will combine fan favorites from over the past 10 years of terror at the event.

Fright Dome creator Jason Egan and his team are already working on transforming the Circus Circus Adventurdome into a fog-filled, five-acre macabre masterpiece with roaming scare actors, all-new extreme scare zones, 25 attractions, nightly live stage shows and more terrifying surprises.

Zombie and horror films fans are most likely already well-versed in the world of Romero. For everyone else, here’s an introduction. Romero is the definitive horror film director when it comes to zombies. Since the release of “Night of the Living Dead” in 1968, Romero has been known for his innovative approach to horror and bringing zombie apocalypses to the silver screen. “Night of the Living Dead” was a pivotal moment in horror film history. The movie went on to receive critical acclaim and was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance.

Romero has continued to terrorize zombie-loving audiences and the horror industry with more movies including “Dawn of the Dead,” “Day of the Dead,” “Land of the Dead,” “Diary of the Dead” and “Survival of the Dead.”

With talk of zombies on the rise, due to the popularity of shows like AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” there’s no better time for Romero to bring his zombie intelligence to Fright Dome.

“For the past decade we’ve had one of the top haunted attractions in the nation, but I would have never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to work with an icon in the industry like George,” said Egan. “When it comes to zombies and scaring people he’s the best by far. I’m thrilled to have George lend his creativity to Fright Dome and equally thrilled that Las Vegas has embraced this event every year allowing us to grow and make the 10thanniversary truly the most terrifying yet.”
