Successful Zombie Mod DayZ To Become Standalone Title
DayZ, the zombie mod that propelled 3-year-old ArmA II to the top of video game charts, is being developed as a standalone game.
The DayZ modification received such positive feedback and reviews that developer Dean Hall has decided to develop the game as an individual PC exclusive title. With Bohemia Interactive and project lead Hall working together, players and zombie lovers alike can expect the same great gameplay quality in the standalone that they discovered in the mod.
Hall writes on his blog that “development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game.” This means any user currently fighting for their lives can continue to do so without the added fear of suddenly losing all those canned beans they’ve been hording.
Hall also notes that the project will have a community alpha “available for a heavily discounted price.” Additional information and updated announcements will be available on the DayZ official website, dayzgame.com.
It was only four months ago that the DayZ mod was released. Hailed by Quintin Smith as possibly the best zombie game ever made, this hyper-realistic zombie apocalypse game immediately fascinated and enthralled players. Reviewers remarked it wasn’t the zombies, albeit there are many roaming desolate wastelands, that made the game tense – it was the other survivors that made DayZ a believable nightmare. Just like a real zombie apocalypse, some people may join together in the effort to survive longer and some may play the lone wolf card. Recognizing who you can trust when food and medical aid is scarce is important. You need water, you need bandages, you need ammo, you need to be quiet so zombs don’t hear you… You need to keep a close eye on the guy you’ve teamed up with to make sure he doesn’t decide he wants your goodies.
To put it in perspective: on the DayZ mod website, over 3 million murders have been recorded. The overall life expectancy is 49 minutes. This game will definitely disclose the true colors of humanity and offer insight into what a real zombie outbreak would incite among survivors. (Example: if you run across me on a server, you should probably either prepare for death or run away. Those are MY foodies.)
