Short Summary
Nowadays is a 300-page graphic novel that follows a group of people stranded along a Northern Ontario highway during the onset of a Zombie Apocalypse.
These aren't your parents zombies, though. The undead have the ability to think, speak, run, and choose whether to be monsters. In every other story the zombie is the plot device that creates the fear and motivation that drives and develops the cast of characters through the story. In Nowadays, we are redefining the genre in a way that sees the zombie as a tragic character. They are no longer a part of the background to the story. They are the main characters, with a choice to be antagonist or protagonist, the monster or the hero.
The Nowadays creators are storytellers based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Between the 2 of them, they have backgrounds in comics, film, visual arts, stage performance, radio, prose, and survived the Lakehead Outbreak of the Undead in '08.
This book is a product of over 2 years in the making, is completely done and is ready to print. All contributions will help bring this project to reality. 100% of funds raised will go towards printing 2000 physical copies of the book (or more), and further our attempt to romance publishers with a compelling morality tale in a genre that currently has an expansive audience.
This is an all-or-nothing campaign. The $20,000 we are seeking covers the cost of printing 2000 copies of a 300-page book in high quality. The vast majority will cover the printing itself, and any monies left-over will cover the cost of the supercool rewards we are offering for helping us achieve this goal. The rewards include magnets, stickers, buttons, art cards, t-shirts, prints, the book itself (of course) and limited canvas prints.
Also, we are offering the unique experience of being IN the book.
The zombie genre is very popular, but we aim to take it in a new direction that no others have steered. This idea that zombies are still human has not been explored. These zombies are people you know. They are your neighbours and your relatives. They could be you. What would you do if blood was the currency of the world? How would the world react if the term 'dog-eat-dog' became literal? Would it be a world of nightmare? Or would humanity prove to overcome this new darkness?
In Nowadays, we follow two groups of characters as they are presented with these choices.
Nowadays is going to change your perspective of the zombie genre. If you are a fan of zombies, you will want to share this story with anybody who shares your love for the undead.
The creators of this tale have been telling stories for years. Having been involved with the special-effects side of the commercial film industry, another on-going comic series (Victor's Legacy), on-going comic strip (Zygote Bop), Campus Radio, Improv Comedy, acting/writing/directing for stage, among other creative endeavours, we are excited to bring you this compelling tale of morality.
