Coquitlam residents can sleep a little easier at night knowing there is no zombie apocalypse in their neighborhood.
Police were called to a residence on Harbour Drive in Coquitlam Sunday evening to a report of a man running around people’s yards with no shirt yelling about zombies.
When Mounties arrived, they reassured the man, who is in his 30s, there were no zombies, but he was taken into custody for being intoxicated.
He was later released without any charges.
RCMP Const. Jamie Phillipson said the call was unusual, but residents did the right thing by phoning police.
“It doesn’t appear that there is any sign of the zombie apocalypse at this time,” he told The NOW.
“I think we’re safe.”
Police are not sure where the man was prior to the incident.
This isn’t the first time Coquitlam Mounties have been dispatched to deal with the undead.
In July, police responded to a call of a man and woman screaming from their apartment on Wilson Avenue in Port Coquitlam.
When police arrived, the couple told investigators they had seen two "non-human entities" on their patio.
A search turned up nothing.
The detachment sent out this tweet Tuesday morning on the latest encounter: “First it was #aliens now a call re #zombies. #lawenforcement: not just a career, an adventure. #strangerthanfiction.”
Interestingly enough, the province offers tips to residents on zombie preparedness through its Emergency Info BC website.
In May, the province launched a “zombie preparedness week” campaign as a tongue-in-cheek way of getting B.C. residents prepared for a much-more-earthly disaster like an earthquake.
