‘Zombie Run' 5K to benefit Red Cross (Knoxville, TN)

Campus will soon be overrun by zombies.

Clinic Vols will be hosting their third annual Friday Night 5K on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is zombies and a costume contest will be held after the race is completed.

The theme was to spark more interest in the race. Since it is near Halloween, hopefully it will attract people.Caitlin Miller, president of Clinic Vols
All proceeds will go to help fund Clinic Vols and its services, which include training and sending out more than 500 volunteers to local elementary school clinics, as well as the American Red Cross Knoxville Chapter.

Registration for the event is available online and will also be available the day of the race starting at 4:30 p.m. Prices will vary depending on the participant and a free T-shirt will be given to all who take part in the event.

The race will begin on Pedestrian Walkway in front of the Clarence Brown Theater and make a loop around campus. Participants are encouraged to wear their best zombie attire. The best male and female costumes will win a prize along with the top three male and female winners of the race. Prizes include an assortment of gift cards.

Other volunteer organizations such as the American Red Cross Knoxville Chapter, Tennessee Crew Team, and UT's Red Cross Club will be present. Star 102.1 will provide the music for the event.

Clinic Vols began hosting their Friday Night 5k races in 2010.

"It started as a way to fund Clinic Vols and get more involvement within the community," said Caitlin Miller, president of Clinic Vols. However, this year's event is the first to have a specific theme.

"The theme was to spark more interest in the race. Since it is near Halloween, hopefully it will attract people," Miller said.
