"On March11, 2011 an earthquake categorized as 9.0 MW on the moment magnitude scale occurred off the northeast coast of Japan effecting Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This caused a destructive tsunami. Radiation releases caused large evacuations, concern about food and water supplies, and treatment of nuclear workers. The events at units 1, 2 and 3 of the nuclear plant were rated at LEVEL 7 (major release of radioactive material with widespread health and environmental effects requiring implementation of planned and extended countermeasures) on the International Nuclear Event Scale"
What happens next is a whole new story.
