Nintendo today streamed a version of “Nintendo Direct” to announce some new features of their upcoming console, Wii U.
In that video was a little skit to introduce the console’s baked in social network, Miiverse. The video showed an actor having trouble with a seemingly generic zombie video game that would flash up on screen for less than one second every now and then, just for effect.
At first we figured “meh, it’s probably just filler, like they use for bad cop shows about delinquent kids who play one crappy looking video game then go off an murder the entire village”. But then we took another look and found that maybe it wasn’t just pre-rendered video at all.
Could it be a first party Zombie game from Nintendo?
First, check out the Miiverse trailer to see what we’re talking about;
We froze the frame and took a few screen grabs on the almost-subliminal flashes of zombies, and found some interesting details.
The game appears to be a first person shooter. We identified two weapons at the player’s disposal; a handgun and a syringe (to possibly cure the zombie virus). In one instance, we were able to capture the game prompting the player to press the “ZR” button, which seems to us to mean that this is actual software, not just a pre-rendered video for the purpose for the trailer.
In any event, it’s a primitive prototype and currently looks like a mid-90′s arcade game. The images were far too sparse for anyone to form a detailed opinion on the Wii U’s power, or this game itself, but you can check out our screen grabs below.

Nintendo is expected to announce some Wii U software details this week. Head to the E3 2012 Coverage Portal for all the latest announcements.
