Miami zombie attack: Rudy Eugene's girlfriend blames voodoo curse

Rudy Eugene, who was killed by police on Saturday (May 26) when he was found attacking -- or more accurately, chewing the face off -- a homeless man in Miami on Saturday (May 26), may have been the victim of a voodoo curse, his girlfriend tells the Miami Herald.
The woman, who asked that her name not be used in the interview, says that although Eugene did smoke marijuana he was not a habitual drug user -- and even balked at taking over the counter medications. She tells the Herald that Eugene must have either been drugged or the victim of a voodoo curse -- Eugene is Haitian.

"I don't know how else to explain this," she said.

The couple had been dating off and on since 2007 and Eugene is described by his girlfriend as "sweet" and "cute." He carried a Bible with him at all times. She stresses that Eugene was never violent around her -- though he was taken into police custody in 2004 for allegedly threatening his mother and smashing furniture during a domestic dispute.

"Something happened out of the ordinary that day. I don't want him to be labeled the Miami Zombie," she " says. "He was a person. I don't want him to go down like that.
