9 Zombie-killing ladies we want on our side during the apocalypse

Alice, Resident Evil (films)
The butt-kicking glue that holds the long-running Resident Evil franchise together, Alice can shoot anything with bullets and is pretty good with a blade. She has faced off with mountainous hordes of zombies, plus gone toe to toe with all kinds of monstrous baddies. Plus, she doesn’t just re-kill the undead. She also takes on the corporate conspiracies that started the apocalypse to begin with.

Michonne, The Walking Dead
One of the coolest characters from the Walking Dead comic, this sword-wielding badass is finally showing up on the small screen this fall. Michonne lives by her own set of rules, and even carries a few chained-up zombies with her as pets. In a world where bullets are scarce, Michonne has mastered the art of swordplay.

Alicia, House of the Dead
Yes, the movie (based on the popular videogame series) was pretty terrible, but one of the small highlights was this character, who proves herself a capable survivor when all hell breaks loose. She keeps her wits, and eventually helps blow up a house full of zombies. Not bad.

Ana Clark, Dawn of the Dead
A trained nurse, Ana wakes up from a date night with her husband to find the zombie apocalypse underway, and after her husband is turned she manages to keep her wits and join a group of survivors hiding out in a local mall. Every team needs someone with medical training, plus she’s strong-willed and would make a pretty good moral center for any group of survivors.

Cherry Darling, Planet Terror
This Grindhouse flick by Robert Rodriguez centered on a paper-thin plot about a serum turning people into zombie-like creatures, and mostly serves as a jumping-off point for some cheesily awesome action set pieces. Arguably the most kick-ass member of the team? Go-go dancer Cherry Darling, who loses her leg and eventually equips a mini-gun prosthetic in its place. It’s like Ash’s chainsaw arm, but even cooler.

Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Though she’s best known for fighting vampires (and demons and government conspiracies and ancient evils), Buffy has also faced off with zombies from time to time. With her unmatched hand-to-hand fighting skills, super-strength and leadership abilities, Buffy is definitely someone you want around when the world goes nuts.

Jill Valentine, Resident Evil (games/movie)
Dating back to the videogame days, Jill has been around since the early days of the zombie apocalypse, and was on the first team sent to investigate the zombie outbreak. She’s deadly accurate and has more experience than arguably anyone when it comes to dealing with the undead. She has also become a player in the Resident Evil films, and is just as kick-ass on the big screen.

Elizabeth Bennet, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
In this zombie-fied adaptation of the literary classic, Elizabeth is trained from a young age to fight the undead. While sporting her classic party dress, she’s deceptively kick ass.

Wichita, Zombieland                                                               With her little sister in tow, Wichita may not seem like the most kick-ass option, but what she may lack in fighting skills she makes up for in wit and trickiness. She constantly tricks Columbus and uses her skills to get the drop on other survivors. She may not be as handy fighting zombies, but she’d more than make up for it by helping outsmart rival gangs of survivors.
