KICKSTARTER PROJECT: WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S 'LAND OF THE 'DEAD'

William Shakespeare is writing a new play and fighting for his life at the same time. Will Shakespeare survive the Zombie Plague??

William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead: The True and Accurate Account of the Zombie Plague of 1599 is going to be produced at Oddfellows Playhouse (Middletown, CT) on November 8-17. This production is for students in grades 9-12, immersing them completely in a professional show-- from lights, costumes, makeup, rehearsals, and auditions. This is an opportunity they would not otherwise have.
We serve youngsters ages 3-20 from all across the state, particularly those that are at-risk, underserved, or have little to no access to the arts. Oddfellows Playhouse builds essential skills for life through the theatrical arts. We provide scholarships to those children who do not have the financial means, because we believe fully in the trans-formative power of the arts and that all kids should be allowed to participate.
Your funding would allow Oddfellows, a non-profit youth theater, to bring this new and exciting production to life (or death!) on stage for the first time in Connecticut. It would support our scholarship students (over 41% of our total students are on scholarship) and bring this exciting and creative show to stage.  This funding will also help us to support all the local artists we bring to Oddfellows to work with the kids- costumers, fight coordinators, directors, makeup artists, set designers.  We also couldn't make this happen without them.
Multitudes of zombie's will be descending upon the Playhouse, bringing excitement and fun!!! Your support will help us keep Shakespeare alive!!!!

William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead: A True Account of the Zombie Plague of 1599, takes the stage in November.  This play from the NY Fringe Festival takes place backstage on the opening night of Shakespeare’s Henry V.   Dealing with drama behind the scenes becomes more complicated when an afflicted madman enters the Globe and attacks.  As the affliction spreads through London, the Globe is placed in quarantine and the survivors within must fight for their lives.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES

Oddfellows Playhouse has a 38 year history of successfully mounting full-scale productions of intricate and exciting shows, both challenging from a performance aspect as well as a production aspect.

The challenge could be gathering enough "walk on zombies" to make the fights scenes really come to life. We are prepared to canvas for young actors and market the production in new area for actors.
