See How Stargate Studios Made  The Walking Dead’s Zombie Kills

AMC’s The Walking Dead is a violent series. If you need proof of that, look no further than Stargate Studios’ new visual-effects sizzle reel, which shows how the VFX company made some of Season 3′s many, many, many deaths — both zombie and human — look so real.
It’s pretty impressive, but we’ve known for a long time that Greg Nicotero’s make-up effects team and the folks at Stargate are amazing at what they do. But it’s shots like Tyreese, Sasha and their group walking into the Prison for the first time that are truly incredible, because the majority of that scene is CGI. The same goes for the helicopter crash early on in Season 3, which for the most part wasn’t real.
The Walking Dead wouldn’t work quite as well if its zombies and zombie kills weren’t completely convincing, so we give Stargate props for what they do. The hit AMC series just finished airing its third season, and Season 4 is already being prepped. David Morrissey, Chad L. Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney have all been upgraded to series regulars, while Melissa Ponzio has joined in a recurring role.
