5-kilometer race provides reason to run: zombies

If you're wondering if you have what it takes to survive a zombie attack, you might want to test your skills Sept. 29 during the Run for your Life! Zombie 5k at Spruce Run Reservoir recreation area.

Hosted by the Voorhees High School Education Foundation, the race sends runners on a course across the lush grounds of Spruce Run where zombies will be lurking --  hiding behind trees, bushes and rocks.

Runners who outsmart the zombies and make it to the finish line will be declared survivors, according to a news release.

“In the spirit of Halloween, the Zombie 5k Run will be an opportunity to prove what you’re made of while having fun and supporting our students and our community,” foundation President Chris Sickels said.

The cost is $20. Registration the day of the event starts at noon; the race begins at 2 p.m. Pre-registration is now open and a free T-shirt and cinch sack is guaranteed to the first 100 registrants. Post-run prizes, refreshments and music will be available.

To register early visit vhsef.org (VHSEF Zombie 5k) or contact Mike Walsh at walshtrips@comcast.net or 908-347-4266.

The VHSEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education at Voorhees High School. Its primary mission is to provide a source of money for educational programs beyond the limitations of the school budget.
