"Zombieland" Series Cancelled, Amazon Passes On Pilot; Writer/Producer Blames Fans

Writer-producer Rhett Reese says the project was "hated out of existence" after a crowd-sourcing trial on the streaming service.

As Amazon makes decisions on which of the 14 pilots currently streaming on its Prime service will go to series, one project not moving forward is Zombieland.

The serialized spin on the 2009 film, one of the more high-profile efforts on the company's ambitious original slate, did not fare well in Amazon's crowd-sourcing -- according to writer-producer Rhett Reese.
"Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon," Reese wrote on Twitter. "Sad for everyone involved."
Amazon's pilot catalog went live on April 19, and the company has said that user ratings and feedback will play a large role in the decision of which to order to series. With 5,500 reviews currently showing on the website, Zombieland averages 3.7 out of 5 stars. Reese, who also wrote the Zombieland film, makes it seem as though the response has been more negative.
"I'll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombielandfans," he continued. "You guys successfully hated it out of existence."
