Zombie Apocalypse? No, Ketchup Truck Crash!

Debris on Highway
Debris on Highway

The ketchup truck crash scene looked like a something out of “The Walking Dead“, or any of dozens of zombie apocalypse films, but it was only the aftermath of a major “ah, sh*t!” on I-80 near Reno, Nevada. On Thursday, a tractor-trailer carrying thousands of bottles of Heinz ketchup swerved to avoid a car, hit the concrete blocks in the median, then scraped past a light pole, which ripped open the trailer like a buzzsaw.

As you can see, there’s nothing left in the trailer. All those bottles of ketchup, 42,000 pounds worth, wound up strewn all over the highway, leaving a scene that looked like the biggest CSI crime scene imaginable. No one was actually injured in the crash, but state department of transportation officials did have to call in the snow plows to clear the ketchup debris off the highway. The local dump is going to smell pretty odd for awhile!
Traffic was disrupted for about an hour (can you imagine the “gawk” factor?). Sgt. Janay Sherven of the Nevada Highway Patrol told the Reno Gazette Journal, “I have red everywhere on the highway. No bodies, no people, just ketchup.”
Do you want fries with that?
